Sweet Olive Cemetery by eudora

Sweet Olive Cemetery

For a long time I thought I was weird to be interested in cemeteries. To me, they are not creepy but places of history, memory and peace.

Sweet Olive is a historic African American cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in use for over 150 years. For a long time it was neglected and I WAS scared to go in it, for fear of stepping in a hole and twisting an ankle. Recently people in the community have worked hard to clean it up.

A lovely image

I think they are a very good visual history of any area. This is an interesting composition

My mom LOVES cemeteries for the history, so you’re not alone! She wants me to driver her to one in Philadelphia (8 hours away) this summer so she can see the grave of a woman in a book she read.

I sense the history in them too- especially the ones around here from the 16 and 1700's.

Nicely captured and framed by the tree
