I wrote to Hubby every day when he was in Basic Training and Pilot Training in 1979. We have kept those letters all these years, and I hauled them out for the Macro Stamp challenge.
I found that Ann @olivetreeann has picked a tough choice with this macro. I find that all stamps are inherently similar so it was difficult giving a unique spin to this challenge.
Luckily I found a beat up stamp that had some texture.
Ah sweet...I can5 find the letter me & my husband write to each other which is quite sad really. We did write a lot when I was in nurse training...a lost art so lovely you still have yours! Your stamp has our Queen on it?
@happypat
Yes - we are still the Dominion of Canada and the Queen is still our Head of State.
As a matter of fact, we have a Governor General who, as the Queen's representative, listens to and approves every Throne Speech at the opening of every Parliament, and the Prime Minister must approach the GG when he wishes to dissolve Parliament for the summer or prorogue Parliament for any reason.
Canada is still very much tied to the Queen and we would need to change our Constitution if we want to break ties with the Queen.
I personally like the relationship, and hope it never changes but there are some people in Canada who would like to see that tie broken.
But, we also have a strong Monarchist league.
@farmreporter Sorry Wendy I wasn’t sure where you actually lived. Of course if you live there your stamp will have the queens head on it though I actually hadn’t thought of it! I forget sometimes where people do live!
Congratulations Wendy on making it to the final vote for Macro-stamps. This was an excellent macro- the texture you captured really makes this common stamp something to be reckoned as "not so common"!
Excellent story, and the texture was the first thing that I noticed in this photo. I don't think my beloved and I have ever exchanged letters. We've traveled separately many times, but it has never been more than a week or two.
wendy, i'd like to let you know this is a great macro shot. love those textures and for a while, especially if you stare at it long enough, as if there are hidden messages or codes in those black lines. big ACES!
