The Empty Nest

Hubby came back saying that one baby was gone after he went out to check the nest early in the morning, then there was only one baby left shortly after.
Momma Robin was going nuts he said, flitting from branch to branch and squawking loudly.
I went out less than half hour later to get a shot of the one left, and the nest was empty.
All three were picked off one by one over a period of 2 hours. So sad.
We figure that it was another bird - probably a grackle.
It is not the story I was hoping for.
I was looking forward to catching photos of their first flight and eventual departure.
So sorry to show it this way but I do know that there were many following this story.
Awww I’m so sorry. I loved your sweet photo yesterday.

Oh dear I could cry....they haven’t flown have they ....just a small hope but it doesn’t sound like they were quite old enough. Nature can be very cruel...I bet you feel really bad.

Oh what a shame. It’s amazing that any birds reach maturity as they get preyed upon so easily.

How sad Wendy, poor mumma robin

Nice end shot. Pity the story wasn’t happier. Lots of our ducklings and signets get eaten by the lakes eels, a lot of baby turtles the ducks get. Circle of life I guess.
