A Little Gem. (5 Colliergate, York)

This little gem of a timber framed house is nestled between two much later buildings in Colliergate, York.

The building dates from the 16th century but is now home to a business selling and repairing domestic appliances as well as selling various accessories and spare parts. Advice is free and tailored to the customers needs. Ignoring it is usually a mistake!

I like the building having such a practical use despite its age. Its easy to overlook or assume it is a "mock Tudor" building. Further information at:

@dolphin @pixiemac @bobhuegel Thank you. I've wanted to take its picture for a while but the view is often blocked by delivery vans or cars. Its only sound the corner from the Shambles but not really on the tourist trail. Katharine

@tonydebont Thanks Tony. It does seem out of place with the much taller buildings on each side, but it also adds to its attraction. Katharine

@bkbinthecity Thanks. We have a number of timber framed buildings in York but this ones location was its attraction for me. Katharine

@purplehaze12 It is a wonderful shop Hazel with a nicely uneven floor inside. Across the road is an equally wonderful hardware and kitchen shop, although it is a less interesting building. Katharine

Well spotted. When I was in York recently, I was disappointed with the photo opportunities, sometimes due to the amount of traffic and people.
