Montbretia by fishers

Montbretia

These plants grow at the bottom of my garden. I rather like their cheerful colour against the fence in a patch of land where conditions are rather inhospitable.

Imagine my surprise when I found a website saying they were invasive weeds!

These are nice cheerful flowers and a lovely close up shot. We used to have them in my garden when I was a child, but I haven't seen them for a while.

A weed is only a plant in the wrong place. We have these in our garden also in one of those difficult places. Certainly not invasive in the UK. Great colour and composition.

Lovely shot. These plants are considered a week over here. But they are a beautiful weed. They grow wild on the sides of the road and look lovely but when they get into your garden they multiply like crazy and take over. I love them on the side of the road!

They ARE weeds here, and it is an offence to sell or plant them deliberately - but they do make wonderful splashes of colour.

@malc Thanks Malc. That's one of my favourite quotes, along with Lucy's conviction that one man's weed is another man's flower. Katharine

@witchyjacq I could see them being a problem if they get out of hand, but they are pretty. Katharine

@janturnbull They were classed as flowers when I planted them sometime in the 80's. I can see them being classed as weeds as I manage to grow them so well. Katharine
