Another shot from the walk that Katharine and I did on Saturday. Shortly after starting our walk on the flood bank we spotted this character perched in a small tree, keeping a careful eye on us.
Grey squirrels are a non native species in the UK, and were originally from North America. They were released in the UK by 19th century landowners. They are now very common and widespread.
Sadly, they have replaced our smaller native red squirrels over most of the UK, although there are areas where red squirrels still thrive - particularly in Scotland.
Grey Squirrels can become quite tame. There are quite a few in the Museum Gardens in York city centre which will eat from your hand if you are still and patient and wait for them to come to you.
Thank you Richard, glad you like it.
