The Flowerpot Men by fishers

The Flowerpot Men

This mural in Woodhouse, Sheffield always raises a smile and takes me back to a favourite childhood TV programme.

Bill and Ben were the flowerpot men who lived in flowerpots at the end of the garden. They got into all sorts of mischief, but with advise from Little Weed thing were usually put in order before the gardener noticed. Little Weed lived between them and enjoyed the sun on her face.

Bill and Ben had their own special language and mainly said " flob-a-lob" using all sorts of expression and intonation. I think we all drove our parents mad by only using these words in play.

Ahh memories. I wonder what today's children would think of this programme with puppets on strings and few special effects. However I am sure they would understand everything that was said.

Brilliant! I used to love these, and some years ago my children gave me a video of them for Christmas - but they were derisory about the strings, which I'd never noticed as a child!!
