I was taking a short cut to the railway station when I found a set of sculptures by George Fullard in the grounds of the Upper Chapel in Sheffield city centre. This one of a mother and child was my favourite.
George Fullard was born in Sheffield and studied at the Sheffield College of Arts and Crafts. He went on to the Royal College of Art where he later became a lecturer and at the time of his death he was Head of Chelsea School of Art.
Fullard’s work of the 1950’s mainly focused on the human figure with women being prominent, particularly mothers with young children or babies.
