Kirkby Stephen is an interesting small town with attractive architecture and a lovely riverside walk, but for me one of the things that made it particularly special was the lovely countryside around it, with many small fields of grass on the gentle slopes, separated by dry stone walls, dotted with clusters of trees, and sheep grazing on the rich grass there, and the upland moors beyond, here seen caught in the shadow of a large cloud. I could feel those hills calling for me to explore them!

This is a beautiful area and somewhere where I have done relatively few walks, having passed through Kirkby Stephen only once before. There are several interesting looking walk routes, and it would be good to do some of those.
Sandy, those dots are indeed sheep - the main form of farming in this area.

Thank you both for your comments. I'm not sure what it is about the Eden Valley, but it is a special and beautiful place.
