The Big Red Engine goes to the Seaside by fishers

The Big Red Engine goes to the Seaside

It’s summer, so time for the regular Scarborough Spa Express steam railway services to Scarborough. The service runs from Carnforth (north Lancashire) to York pulled by vintage diesel locomotives. The train stops in sidings just south of York railway station, where the diesels are replaced by a steam locomotive for the last part of the journey

So here we are, an LMS ‘Jubilee’ locomotive, 45699 ‘Galatea’, entering platform 5 at York railway station, where it was met by quite a crowd of photographers.

@777margo @peadar @onewing @sangwann @busylady @lizzybean @carolmw @ninaganci @seattlite @pyrrhula @stevepam @vernabeth @bkbinthecity

Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.

It's quite likely this locomotive will appear again on our 365 project in the near future since it will be taking regular trips to Scarborough.

@fishers I`ve been once at Scarborough. Is it still possible that (small) ships disload there gargo on the boulevard ? We did in +/-1963

@pyrrhula At one time there was quite a lot of cargo unloaded in Scarborough, especially fish and timber, but I don't think there is much at all now.
