Another shot from Louise, taken a couple of weeks ago in Bourne Woods, South Lincolnshire, when it was rather wetter and colder than now. There are remnants of the snow in the top left, and plenty of water around the bases of the trees.
Bourne Woods is on a low ridge of Jurassic rocks to the west of the town of Bourne. The ridge is covered with a layer of boulder clay left during the Ice Age, which made it hard to farm as arable land and too wet to use as pasture, so it was left as woodland, which was another valuable resource at that time.
Today, much of it is still classed as ancient woodland, but there are small areas of plantation as well. There is a quite extensive network of footpaths and cycle routes. Two artificial lakes attract a variety of wildlife. So the area is a rich and varied landscape, with a lot to see and explore.
I just took a really similar shot this afternoon out for a walk! Love reflections in ponds and puddles at this time of year. So green and yet so sparse.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated, and Louise was thrilled by them.
Bourne woods is a lovely area to explore, and I'm looking forward to visiting and exploring more with my family, when restrictions allow.
