Scarborough castle is on a very good defensive site, with steep coastal cliffs on three sides, and a narrow neck of land to the west giving access. It's defensive site can be seen here - https://365project.org/fishers/365/2019-07-20
One might expect good views from the castle, but many are obstructed by the curtain wall, particularly on the south-western side, facing the old town area. To overcome this, English Heritage have had a wooden tower built which gives excellent views of the surroundings, if you have the energy to climb all the steps!.
This shot, taken from this tower, shows the view over the entrance and its defences. The well defended entrance can be seen in the lower part of the shot. At the top of the shot, and slightly further away are more recent buildings which continue the theme of battlements.
The building on the right is holiday accommodation with the name 'Castle by the Sea'. The building on the left is (I think) still a private house with the name 'The Towers'.
This is just one of many interesting views from the wooden tower. There is a glimpse of the sea in the North Bay on the right of this shot.
magnificent view!
Glad to see that the buildings surrounding the castle have kept the theme and architecture in line with the castle.
The view is spectacular. Thank you for climbing all those steps for this capture. well done

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The viewing tower is a wonderful addition to the castle, with it's excellent views over north and south bay, and over the town itself and towards the hills of the North York Moors.
