Taken ten days ago, this is the first shot that I have taken this year of a butterfly.
Katharine and I had a trip to Malton, a market town some 18 miles north-east of York. Our aim was to visit the Malton Museum, where for a short time only a Saxon shield from a burial site at Pocklington, discovered during an archaeological dig before a new housing development takes place.
The shield was a beautiful piece of workmanship, and considering its great age it was in good condition. Sadly, photography wasn't allowed, so we won't be able to share a shot of it with you.
Beside the River Derwent at Malton there is an interesting walkway, and it was there that we spotted this butterfly and I took this shot.
Malton is an attractive town that markets itself as 'Yorkshire's Food Capital'. It is another location with a long history, having been the location of a Roman settlement.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!
We enjoyed our visit to Malton, it is an attractive and friendly town, with quite a lot to see, and it is easily accessible from York, with a bus every 30 mins or a train every hour.
