I'm done with my week of buds, and moving on to birds and anything else that catches my fancy. Here's a female blackbird having a snack on the little stone wall.
@stevejacob They look very different from our male blackbirds too.
Our males actually are black almost all over. ( The red-winged blackbirds, which are what I see most of, have a red and yellow patch on their wings.) It was actually a couple of years of paying attention to our local birds, before I realized that these streaked brown birds were actually the mates of those red winged black birds I was seeing. I had no idea that this is what female blackbirds look like. I see red winged blackbirds all the time so I must have seen these females as well but didn’t know they were related.
