The time to repair
the roof is when
the sun is shining.

Well, this Monday is the day our roof is being torn off. We have several leaks so it is past time to replace it. I am nervous about it and happy and hope all goes smoothly. Since we live in California, we will not stay with wood shake which at one time was the roofing material of choice before too frequent of California fires. We decided on a stone coated metal roofing material called Canyon Shake instead of asphalt shingles or other choices. Our roof is very steep and will be difficult to work on, plus the 100 degree heat and poor air quality, due to the fires. This photo is a small area on the north side of our roof, where moss grows sometimes too. It is rather pretty but it has to go. After the roof is replaced, we have a few areas of water damage to have repaired on the inside of our home. One step at a time...and I hope we all survive the next two weeks! It is a big and very expensive job.
This is beautiful, really. I wonder if you could save a few of these shingles for display? I can’t think of what they could be used for but it seems such a pity to have to see all this beauty thrown away. We’ve had 3 roofs in 6 years (we have brutal hail storms in the spring). So roofing is kind of a way of life here. I always scour our driveway and street looking for roofing nails that have been dropped so I can pick them up before our car tires find them.
Wow I’m sure your roof isn’t purple so gorgeous choice of color alterations. Thanks for the birthday present of a new roof on Monday. I’m glad you aren’t superstitious and starting on the 13th in my honor!!
Sounds like a smart move- even though the cost can be high, it seems maintaining a home is an important priority. Best wishes on the new roof- you'll be glad you did it when it's all done and looks good! In the meantime you've made a nice pop art poster out of the old one!
LOVE the colors you created here! You'll be in my thoughts! Certainly little worry about getting rain over the next few weeks, and how nice it will be when it's all done!
@Weezilou Thank you, Louise! Tomorrow is the start day! The roof is being removed...let the games begin!!! I hope no more hidden surprises and expenses! Yes, I will be very happy when it is done and over! :)
The processing of the fungi is lovely.
