The holiday for today is Drive In Movie day. This drive in movie was still functioning when we moved here 34 years ago but has long since been closed. I saved this photo of it that I came across last month not knowing It would come in handy for today's holiday. The soda and popcorn were taken today. If you have never been to a drive in movie nothing I can say will fully explain the ambience to you
Nice nostalgic image. We have a drive-in for sale here in Middleport. When I was young in the 60s and 70s, drive-ins were everywhere. Now, we only have one that's open.
I used this holiday for the FB group I start each morning. It was fun to hear about people's memories. I remember lots of good things but I also remember getting eaten by misquitos.
We still have several of them around Ontario, and I am a fan of them! Definitely a lucky coincidence that you found this picture recently (and saved it)!
We had a drive-in movie near where we lived in my childhood too. It was fun to drive along the highway next to it at night and see scenes from the movie from the road. It too, closed down many years ago. I never saw a movie in it. Nice composite!
A fabulous capture bringing back wonderful memories Katy! Every Friday night was movie night, of course at a drive in. I will never forget those wonderful moments, not that we got to see much of the movie sometimes ;-)
@darchibald Thanks Dave I think for the most part they are a thing of the past @corinnec thank you Corinne They were a lot of fun with a playground for the children so they could do something before it got dark enough to show the movie @joansmor I don't remember mosquitos so we must have kept the windows rolled up @amyk thank you Amy. I felt there were stil some around but I know they are a dying breed @princessicajessica I am so glad to hear they are not totally extinct and that people still enjoy them @louannwarren it was a great way to spend time with the family wasn't it? @johnfalconer I am so glad you thikn so John @olivetreeann I had forgotten about that part of it Ann. Thank you @randystreat I think we went a few times to this one when we first moved here before it closed @ludwigsdiana LOL I know what you mean Diana but we went often with our children too so.......... @wakelys Actually it is probably very similar Sue. The main difference being in the size of the screen and that each car has an individual speaker. The atmosphere otherwise might be the same
good one. back in the old country, it was not a 'drive in' but a sit-in where people would bring blankets to sit on while watching the movie on a big screen as not many people owned cars. there was a "drive in" movie event here in toronto during the summer, at least before covid there was. lots of mosquitoes though and people talk too much the noise drowns the sound.
@eudora lol! Too much credit given there, I just happened to see it recently and saved it @summerfield thanks Vikki. what you were talking about is an outdoor movie which is very different from a drive-in movie because in the drive-in movie we stayed in our cars and had a speaker for each car so no one could drown out the sound
