Morning light coming throught the partially opened blinds. My goal is to get cleaner focus when using the "big" camera...I realize I have to start taking notes on what I'm doing...distance, settings, etc. That & probably contact lenses...lol.
Absolutely superb on black, superb without black too.. loving the shadow of the blinds, it adds another dimension to this lovely still life shot.. beautifully composed..
This is absolutely gorgeous with the soft shadows on the blinds on the pale wall. Almost high key!
This is one time that I may consider cropping the vase out and perhaps using your far left tulip for the rule of thirds rather than in the centre.
I'm not sure but give it a try!
Nice! I like the light stripes and the flowers leaning towards the direction the light comes from. A number of factors affect apparent sharpness. For example the aperture, although f/8 as was used here, is usually good for optimum quality on SLR lenses. (Wide apertures are sometimes softer, narrow ones sharper, although too narrow can cause diffraction which reduces image quality.) I see you have used 55mm focal length ... I assume this is on a 18-55mm zoom lens? Zoom lenses are often not at their best at the extreme ends. Sorry.. you didn't ask for a lecture!
@farmreporter Thank you so much, Wendy. And the edit suggestions are really good. I'll play with it. When I crop out the left, I lose the second set of shadows from the blinds. And when I crop out the vase, the tulips seem too scrunched...but I'll play some more because I think you are absolutely about the rule of thirds for this one.
@yrhenwr All lectures welcome! I do know about aperture and its effect but I have only just recently heard about not using zooms at their extremes (it was a comment when someone asked about birding). Something new for me to be aware of. with these lenses (the kit lenses that came with the canon rebel). Actually, I was rather pleased with the focus I got in this shot.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this and to be so thoughtful and helpful. Anytime...
.... a little advice..... use spot focussing rather than evaluative .... set your focus option to the centre red spot and make sure it is pointing at your subject. Shoot on aperture priority too as this will control DOF etc.
@phil_howcroft thanks for taking the time to do this...I really appreciate at and will keep this all in mind...it is all so helpful...now I'm going to have to be super conscious of focus after all this!
Well since you were so appreciative about Davids comment I dare add that I thin the alle the lines are going lft to right and unless my old eyes are betraying me the vase is also tilted a little to the right - you might get a slightly better result by adjusting that. I do think you should keep the vase in the capture though!.
@runner365 No old eyes on you....just lazy editing (or none) on my part..Thank you for pointing it out. Always welcome to hear something that may (or may not) improve the photograph and me as photographer. Thanks for taking the time to do it. I'm leaving this here as is for now....just as a reminder to me in the future!
@granagringa I think leaving it as is, is the thing to do - I leave the typos in my comment as well then.
Maybe it is time to replace my old laptop though I get a Little tired of banging the keyboard and still discovering later that some of the letters didn't make it to the screen (but the 'alle' is just plain wrong - it is the Danish word for all)
Love how you have caught the tulips reaching out to the sunshine.
Saw your comment about keeping notes - which is a good idea - but do remember that the exif information will normally give you quite a lot of info that will save you a lot of note taking along the way :-)
@lizhammond Thanks, Liz. I'm glad you liked the shot and appreciate your taking the time to comment. Good point about the exif info; it helps a lot. (That and adjusting the diopter!!!)
