Comparing this to your cropped version, I like your cropped one better so I see what you mean. The only thing I can think you might try is even more negative space... maybe a landscape format and/or with the vase up on a small table.
these are my crazy thoughts as i view this most poetic image..
the vase/flower feel small, distant, insignificant even. but the beautiful light ensures their beauty is not overlooked..
the space feels elongated and restrictive, in the sense that there is no room for further objects.. the floor-space feels filled by the vase/flower combination, anything else here and all would be cramped/crowded.. this all of this adds up to the emphasis of the solitude of the tulip.
in the cropped version the vase/flower combo take on a more important role because they appear to be quite large in proportion to the space. in the uncropped version i felt a sense of completeness, nothing could be added, no room.. with this one i feel there is room for another object.. i know the 'floor' space is exactly the same but the height difference alters everything.. this is why buildings with high ceilings feel majestic - they feel complete.
okay, that's my take on it.. the thing is it is all so subjective and i know next to nothing so i just go with my feelings..
Very artistic and beautiful. It is one of your better tulip shots and perfectly shows how you don't have to fill the frame with the subject to make it beautiful.
Well done and a FAV!
@hvansteenburgh thanks so much for your feedbback...it is very interesting to read how different people have reacted. I think this one evokes more of the moodiness I was aiming for but really like your idea of adding even more negative space. Now just have to figure how to do that! thanks again...really appreciate it.
@jorlam Wow, I really appreciate your comments. And I do agree, that this one evokes more of the "darkness" and lonliness that I was going for. So interesting to see how such a relatively minor change of negative space can effect the quality of a shot.
