Main entrance

From the huge square through a series of stairs under high columns through heavy wooden doors with coarse ornaments we enter inside.
this is amazing - and could be a number of buildings in London or any of the big industrial cities. I wondered if this was something like that when I saw it in thumbnail

We all owe quite a lot to the Greeks and Romans, don't we?

@peadar Yes, we does! I think it was not a style of its own and an incident in history. It did not create anything new and only took from Greek, Roman, Clasicism what it wanted and mixed it. The monumentalism and the richness of decorations are the most impressive. The Palace of Culture was built just after the war, when there were no flats and everything in ruin.

those columns look immense .. but then so does the building. It must have taken a huge force of labour to complete. Now I am curious - will we get to see inside?

Those people are totally over-whelmed by the scale of this entry. Another great example of Stalinist architecture.

@haskar Thank you for adding that additional piece of information in your reply to Peter H. I've not been to that part of the world, so your input and photos are invaluable to me.
