Water Moccasin by jamibann

Water Moccasin

Is it or isn't it a venomous Water Mocassin snake? It slithered past me on the golf course yesterday and I didn't dare go too close. I only had my iphone, but got it out of the golf bag pretty quickly and managed to get a snap of the snake. Staff at the club tell me it's a water moccasin. Anybody know their snakes out there?!
Eeeeeeeekkkkk!

Great capture of its markings and kudos for your bravery.

whoa!

Wow, I don't know my snakes and the golf folks should know. I didn't know they had these markings, I thought they were just black. But I live where we don't have such snakes.

beautiful markings but, RUNNNNNNNNNNN

Lovely capture

Oh no! I would have run!

OOOOO! I hope you grabbed a club, too, in case it decided to slither your way. Good catch.

Wow! You're brave!!! I'd have ran away for sure!!!

A beautiful snake. Apparently the water moccasin has many look-alikes--best to steer clear if you aren`t sure!

Creeps me out. You're awfully brave, Issi!

Jeeees!!...brave shot Issi.

@amandal @genealogygenie @michaelelliott @trinda @ziggy77 @mtpagano @randystreat @cailts @tristansmum @cathieg @davie Ha ha, fine line between bravery and stupidity! I wanted to get a better shot, but didn't dare!

No way would I have stayed still long enough to snap that snake - brave girl, Issi!

Oh goodness eeeeeek - just as my son has found out he is being sent to Houston for 4 1/2 months intense training on his company's fast track grad programme (visa permitting!) and we were planning our trip out to visit him! Never been a big fan of snakes!!!!! Super shot though!!!
June 9th, 2014
Eeeehhhh! Oh my goodness - I'd have run a mile for sure. How long was this brute?
June 9th, 2014
@paulaw I would have said we'll have to meet up Paula, but sadly we are on our way out of Houston. We leave in August for France (again)! Fed up moving. Would much rather have stayed here for many reasons. Our daughter will be in Phoenix for a year from July, and that's only one of my reasons! Hope your son enjoys it and if he wants to know anything practical about Houston - don't hesitate to ask! Not too many snakes around, honestly! This is the first one I've encountered close up!

@happysnap About 4 foot, I'd say Linda, head to tail. He wasn't too frightening looking, but I was afraid he'd jump up at me if I got too close - apparently they do!
June 9th, 2014
@squaresparrow Brave or stupid SS!
June 9th, 2014
@jamibann 4ft!! Honestly, I think I would have wet myself ;-)
June 9th, 2014
agggggghhhhhhhh! I would had been so scared!
June 9th, 2014
Looks like he can shift!! Great shot
June 9th, 2014
Wouldn't want to be anywhere near this guy!
June 9th, 2014
OK Issi, you're my hero :) I'd have definitely stayed for the photo op! I have no intrinsic fear of snakes, but I'd be cautious around one that might be poisonous. To my mind, they want to be near you less than you might want to be near them... (did I get that sentence right?) I think they'd only jump if they were cornered... (My husband would be out of there and calling to me to not be so stupid!)

Deb
Koodos to you Issi. I'd have peed my pants if I came that close to even a garden snake. I have a deathly fear of them and my feeling is they don't bother me, I won't run screaming like a girl.

OMG... That thing is huge! I can't stand snakes, even for a second. Wow, I think I would have had a heart attack on the spot if I saw that.
June 10th, 2014
Oh that's a pity, would have been great to meet up in Houston. Hope your move goes well and many thanks for offering advice - we may be picking your brains a little nearer the time!
June 10th, 2014
I know it's not a garter snake! It could be a moccasin, I hope you gave him a wide berth!
