Is it or isn't it a venomous Water Mocassin snake? It slithered past me on the golf course yesterday and I didn't dare go too close. I only had my iphone, but got it out of the golf bag pretty quickly and managed to get a snap of the snake. Staff at the club tell me it's a water moccasin. Anybody know their snakes out there?!
Wow, I don't know my snakes and the golf folks should know. I didn't know they had these markings, I thought they were just black. But I live where we don't have such snakes.
Oh goodness eeeeeek - just as my son has found out he is being sent to Houston for 4 1/2 months intense training on his company's fast track grad programme (visa permitting!) and we were planning our trip out to visit him! Never been a big fan of snakes!!!!! Super shot though!!!
@paulaw I would have said we'll have to meet up Paula, but sadly we are on our way out of Houston. We leave in August for France (again)! Fed up moving. Would much rather have stayed here for many reasons. Our daughter will be in Phoenix for a year from July, and that's only one of my reasons! Hope your son enjoys it and if he wants to know anything practical about Houston - don't hesitate to ask! Not too many snakes around, honestly! This is the first one I've encountered close up!
@happysnap About 4 foot, I'd say Linda, head to tail. He wasn't too frightening looking, but I was afraid he'd jump up at me if I got too close - apparently they do!
OK Issi, you're my hero :) I'd have definitely stayed for the photo op! I have no intrinsic fear of snakes, but I'd be cautious around one that might be poisonous. To my mind, they want to be near you less than you might want to be near them... (did I get that sentence right?) I think they'd only jump if they were cornered... (My husband would be out of there and calling to me to not be so stupid!)
Koodos to you Issi. I'd have peed my pants if I came that close to even a garden snake. I have a deathly fear of them and my feeling is they don't bother me, I won't run screaming like a girl.
Oh that's a pity, would have been great to meet up in Houston. Hope your move goes well and many thanks for offering advice - we may be picking your brains a little nearer the time!
