Stade Yves du Manoir by jamibann

Stade Yves du Manoir

We went to watch a rugby match last night at Colombes (Racing 92 vs Northampton). Great win for the Racing 92 team.

I thought this was a fun shot of a Northampton fan videoing the grounds on his mobile phone.

This stadium was named in memory of French rugby player Yves du Manoir in 1928, and it was the main stadium for the 1924 Summer Olympic Games. It hosted the athletics, some of the cycling, some of the horse riding, gymnastics, tennis, some of the football, rugby, and two of the modern pentathlon events. It was interesting to think of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams running round the track here, and I have to say the 'Chariots of Fire' music was running through my head!
Great pov... hope this guy did not video the whole game..

It's cool because through his camera you can see a different angle of the field. Creative idea, photographing this scene before you. (I was just listening to Vangelis the other day.)

Clever way to convey the feeling of being there AND what you were seeing!

Clever ! Our Atlanta Olympic stadium may be demolished, which is very sad to me. It has housed our professional baseball team since then, but the team was wooed by another county that is not even in the city...

Very clever! And interesting backstory about the 1924 Olympics.

I thought of "Chariots of Fire" as soon as you mentioned the 1924 Olympics--on of my favourite movies of all time. Eric Liddell married a Canadian woman, and I believe his descendants still live here in Toronto.

Very fun!

@tristansmum I don't think I knew that Liddell married a Canadian, Stephanie, and yes, 'Chariots of Fire' is an excellent movie! Goose pimple music too!

@darylo So sad when old stadiums have to go, but I suppose it's inevitable sometimes. This particular stadium may go too as I know that a new one is in the process of being built in a different part of town (with less parking issues) for the Racing 92 home grounds. Who knows what the plan is for this one afterwards, but hopefully it's not going to disappear completely.

@julzmaioro No, no, he was very well behaved, and just happy to be there, I think!

@peterday Ah, how funny that you were watching it on tv! Are you a fan of Northampton or just rugby in general? We were surprised that the match wasn't tighter, I have to say. Maybe Dan Carter's aura was too much for the Saints?! We were there for the fun ... we weren't really supporting either team. We'll be back in January for the rescheduled match against Glasgow however, and there we will be supporting Glasgow, I have to say!

Nice pov! I like it when you get to know the story behind a place/venue.

I always think it's fun to see photograph others who are photographing.
