Thazi by jamibann

Thazi

This is a close-up of a silk table runner that I bring out every Christmas. I bought it when we lived in Myanmar from a friend who runs a Company called 'Thazi' - they employ unskilled women and train them up to be able to produce quality items like this. I love this runner as it always brings me back to my 'Burmese Days'.
Very beautiful embroidery

Such a beautiful runner . . . your shot captures the details in a manner very pleasing to the eyes . . . and knowing the story that goes with this beautiful runner makes it extremely special!

It's quite lovely. Is the embroidery done by hand or by machine?

I didn't know you'd lived in Burma...it's such a special country. Their silk work is quite stunning. We have a few pieces we bought when we were there in the mid-80s, before the military coup.

Beautiful colors for the season, lovely handwork in the stitching, and all the more special knowing the story behind the craftswomen.

@taffy It is incredibly special Taffy! Albeit changing at the moment - not all for the better, but an essential change for sure. Aung San Su Kyi's patience is at last paying off. We were fortunate to live there for 18 months between 2005 and 2006. It must have been interesting to visit in the mid eighties - I wonder how different it was then compared with when we were there?

@randystreat It is machine embroidered Kathy, and beautifully done. It's the rich glow of the silk I like best, though.
