Ptarmagan on the Hill by jamibann

Ptarmagan on the Hill

We spotted a pair of these beautiful birds, sitting on a rock outcrop on the side of Meall a' Chrasgaidh, yesterday. They are quite fabulous and are losing their winter colours at present. They usually fly off quite quickly, but on this occasion they sat around enjoying the heat of the sun and I was able to get reasonably close to them.
Nice patterns and I like the pop of orange

A most odd bird in our lands - a bit like a pigeon with a colour identity challenge!

If it wasn't for his red eyebrow you would miss him wouldn't you. He blends in so well

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Sometimes, when the weather is miserable, I regret taking the 'big' camera as it ends up being in my rucksack most of the time. But on other days I love having it and keep it clipped to the strap of my rucksack. I do however sometimes take my small G7-Powershot when the weather looks iffy or when the walk is long and I want to keep my rucksack weight to a minimum.
