Well, since 1964, this masterpiece by Raoul Dufy has been housed at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. It's one of the permanent exhibits (it has a room to itself - it's that big) and is therefore free to visit. I love it and drop in by every now and then just to savour the moment.
it was a commission by the Paris Electric Company for their Pavilion of Light and Electricity at the 1937 Paris International Exposition.
It would seem to me that it would take several trips to really take in this painting. It's immense and has such vibrant colors. I like how you captured one person studying it.
Wow! Perfect shot with the viewer standing with a side profile. Thank you for including the link! That is truly a masterpiece! I love the color and the curve . . . and Gertrude Stein's quote. I've read several books about her...definitely an interesting individual. :-)
@gaylewood Yes, it is wonderful ... I stand, along with others, and gaze in awe at the scale and vibrancy of it. There is just so much to look at! So many stories within.
