Burn O' Vat by jamibann

Burn O' Vat

Yesterday's walk took us to the Vat, which is a natural water-gouged bowl. It was a popular tourist attraction in Victorian times, but before then was a hiding place for fugitives. Today the area is popular for walking and a small detour takes you into the vat, which you can enter easily as long as the burn, which runs through it, is not in spate.
Great composition and the perfect colour clothes to tone with the rocks!

Wow....even though it's not really far away it's not a place we have ever explored. There are so many amazing and historic places close to home!
Hope you survived the gale last night.....I think some power cuts happened up your way.

looks huge!

Impressive boulders & rocks, they make you look quite small in stature. Good walking....I feel lazy now!

Such amazing landscape! However this Aussie needs a few explanations - burn, vat and spate! Words I know but not in the context of this photo :) fav

Colossal rock formation. I like the water dancing down the rocks on the left.

@sarah19 Yes, I'm really enjoying re-discovering all these areas of Deeside. Strangely we had very little wind here and no power-cut. Braemar had no power for ages, and Aberdeen seemed to be quite badly hit too - don't know why/how we escaped, being in the middle, but glad we did.
