Small Tortoiseshell by jamibann

Small Tortoiseshell

The first butterflies of the year were fluttering around the Erica in the sunshine yesterday. At one stage there were three, but by the time I went in and got the camera, they had all gone. I caught this lonesome fellow later in the day though.
Butterflies are so pretty but not the easiest to photograph

@salza You're right. 62 snaps to get one or two decent ones!

A little bit of warm sun makes us all feel better, good to see the first butterflies sunning themselves!

Fabulous....so early for them and lots of ladybirds around here too. Hope they have cosy places to escape the frosts.

Nice - let's hope we don't have a cold snap that kills them all off.

I think of butterflies in summer rather than in spring, but saw one somewhere I was just this week.
