Autumn is all around by jamibann

Autumn is all around

We went out this afternoon to pick some local brambles (blackberries). We got plenty for the freezer! I rather liked the rose-hips in the hedge-rows, although we resisted picking them - we have enough fruit to deal with at the moment. Although I believe they make a great syrup. We've also picked a basin full of our greenhouse grapes and I am currently trying to turn some of them into jelly. We'll see how that works. I remember having trouble getting it to set last time. Fingers crossed for success this time round. So, it's been a fruity day in Ballater!
Now is the season, fav

Back from your holiday to lots of harvesting & gathering. We used to give our babies rosehip syrup, I can taste it now...it’s a very satisfying job bottling & jam making but one I haven’t done for years...except the damson gin that is🤣🤣🤣

They do indeed make a great syrup which is very popular in France as you may know - Sirop d'Églantine.

@happypat I remember the Delrosa Rose Hip syrup very well! I loved it when I was small. It was probably pure sugar though!

I like the reds and browns of this image. Great focus on the tiny details. All your talk of fruit and food here now has me craving a bit of jam.

@miss_molly Yay - it set! I added a cooking apple and lemon rind as well as juice to help with the pectin content. It's worked well, and is tasty.
