What a lovely Christmas Eve we had. Son went surfing up near Banff at Boyndie Bay (much to my concern, but came home, safe and well). Hubby stayed home in the morning and had some time to himself. Ed, Mhairi and I went for a walk at Balmoral, round the various cairns erected by Queen Victoria. I showed them John Brown's grave at Crathie - Queen Victoria's faithful servant. I had also hoped to show them his statue in the Balmoral forest, but wasn't sure where exactly it was. As luck would have it, our walk took us right past it. Here he is ... in all his splendour. 'Friend more than Servant, Loyal, Truthful, Brave. Self Less and Duty, even to the Grave', as engraved on the plinth.
After our walk, we had a lovely bacon roll at the Highlander's Bake House in Crathie, followed by a tour of the Royal Lochnagar Distillery. Hubby joined us for that! The drams were a plenty although I was driving. No problem however, as I don't like whisky.
In the evening we all had dinner at the Clachan Grill in Ballater, followed by our Christmas Eve book swap, and a game of ... yes, Find The Lady. Ed's name is now in the score book. :-)
I so much appreciated reading about your Christmas Eve, Issi - fabulous day! I found the information all very interesting.
I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas😊
Handsome man. You can see that loyal character in the way he is depicted here. And a great day for a family celebration. Wishing many more of the same in the year ahead.
that's a fabulous Christmas Eve, I share your taste re' not liking whiskey ... a bit like drinking cough medicine I think ! Not that I've drunk much cough medicine , but it has always reminded me of the medicine your mother gave you when you had a cough ! Perhaps it's an acquired taste . Merry Christmas x
I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas😊
And a wonderful day all round!
