This hickory’s the culprit. The one responsible for the crrr-unch that we hear as we come and go in Fall. Nuts in mass quantity rain down from the culprit, causing us to cover our heads when we hear them t-t-t-tapping their way downward through leaves because we know a nut falling from 40 feet above our heads hurts when it makes impact.
Squirrels gets all whipped up into a feeding frenzy. Crumbs left over from their meals litter the walkway and provide the crrr-unch we’ve come to associate with home. Admittedly, we love the culprit despite the mess, especially when viewed from the upper porch where one can gaze right on into all of its golden yellow.

Thank you, Jane! This big hickory brings us much joy in every season but especially in Fall when its green leaves turn this glorious golden yellow color. On a sunny day, even the interior of our home glows as golden yellow light comes in the front windows and doors as a result of these leaves!
Love what the hickory tree does when light is on it - the area just glows. And I can relate to your comment about the falling hickory nuts! Crunch crunch as I walk each morning under these beauties. Wonderful dof and composition.
This is a beautiful image, Janet! The shallow DOF has made one rain-soaked leaf the focus while all the rest is soft and golden. And of course your commentary is a delight to read.
As you hoped, the camping weekend has been very enjoyable. Saturday was grey and cloudy (wonderful for photo-taking) but Sunday morning has dawned bright and clear, and colorful!
@lyndemc So glad to read that your camping weekend was a success! Each season provides a lovely display, but Fall with all of its glorious color holds a special place in my heart (and yours as well, yes?) Thank you for commenting on my hickory tree and commentary (and for the fav). Your kindness is so appreciated!
