I’m thankful for the gift of a recipe box filled with treasured recipes. Pulling tattered, spattered, and trusted recipe cards out of my big, old, wooden recipe box takes me on a sentimental journey. The sight of each recipe brings forth memories of the loved one who loves that one! Thanksgiving preparations, steeped in tradition, are underway; and what a joy it is to prepare for our guests. Blessings abound!
I’m dedicating November to giving thanks! For years, I’ve kept a gratitude journal in which I jot down things that I’m thankful for. During this month when we’ll celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m going to take my gratitude for God’s good gifts one step further by photographing a particularly meaningful gift each day for my 365 project! I've always viewed the subjects of my images as gifts, but I'm looking forward to this month of intentionally labeling them as such. This will enable me to spend a bit more time dwelling on God's goodness and offering the thanks that He deserves. If anyone would like to join me in this celebration of grace, please do! I’ll be tagging my images: all-is-grace.
This is a beautiful composition, and I can relate to your narrative too. I have to confess that I've taken to the Internet for recipes more recently, though I still have the hard copies, of course. Going through my mother's cookbooks was so poignant. I posted about it here: http://365project.org/cejaanderson/365/2015-03-01
@cejaanderson Thank you, Jane! I get recipes off the internet sometimes, and I also have a cookbook collection that I love. My recipe box delights me because it holds most of my favorite recipes. Many of the recipe cards in the box were written by family and friends, their handwriting making the recipes even more special. I will definitely try your Mom's cheesecake recipe! What a fabulous story! How sweet of you to share it along with the recipe!
What a nice thought to include - I have many of the recipe cards written by my mom and my mother-in-law - in their handwriting - like you do. Seems to keep them a part of the current celebration. (Besides, they're definitely some of the best recipes I make!)
@milaniet Thank you for commenting! I like what you said about the handwritten recipes keeping loved ones part of the current celebration. They do, indeed. What treasures they are.
A timely image as Thanksgiving draws near. The chosen recipes here indicate your festive dinner is going to be a tasty one! The inclusion of the greenery and fruit added a lovely bit of color to the scene.
@lyndemc Thank you for your sweet comment! I'd actually envisioned a different image of my recipe box; but alas, time ran out as I had much to do today. It's a busy week but a good kind of busy!
Wonderful focus in your photo -- and recipes are such a treasure; many of mine bring back so many wonderful memories of the blessing of sharing food together! Fav!
Absolutely understand this, I have my grans recipe book filled with hand made notes, splodges, splashes and measurements for lounge curtains! So personal especially as they are hand written. Love this shot.
@dsp2 Thank you so much for your comment and fav! I'm glad to hear that you have treasured recipes, too. What blessings they are! They really do bring fond memories to mind.
