Just outside our woods gate, parchment paper-like beech leaves dangled beautifully beneath a blue-gray December sky; and naturally, they drew me outside with camera in hand. I enjoyed framing the pretty, pastel scene in my viewfinder and soon had the shot I’d envisioned; but trotting back along the flagstone path, a very different scene caught my eye. Spruce needles poking straight through fallen beech leaves??? Yikes! Change is changeless. Pastels lost out to pointy!
In all my wonderings and woodland experiences I've never seen this occurrence! I'll forever be curious as to how this happened. Did the needles grow up through the leaf or did something put pressure on beech leaf???
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! It certainly stopped me in my tracks. There were about a half dozen leaves in this condition on top of the Blue Spruce. I don't know what caused this to happen, but it was quite fun to see!
@lyndemc Thank you for commenting! Like you, I'll be forever curious about this! There were about a half dozen leaves in this condition on top of the Blue Spruce. Some were more pierced by the needles than others, and I don't know how it occurred. I'm fascinated!
