Cussewago Creek wasn’t the only thing slow moving in 284-acre Helen B. Katz Natural Area today. A stubborn Achilles tendon tear now has me sitting in and my husband pushing a wheelchair; and as the damp trail got softer, we got slower. My husband’s labor of love got us this far, and we laughed — me afraid of tipping over and him teasing about brakes! So, shot from my wheelchair sinking into the mud, here's a look at Cussewago Creek in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Cussewago Creek is protected by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy as part of the important French Creek watershed, home to a significant number of fish and mussel species. We enjoyed the Winter sights and smells of the surrounding northern hardwood and hemlock forests and vowed to return in Summer when Wood Ducks are known to frequent the creek and when, hopefully, the wheelchair is a thing of the past!
I like viewing this image best on the black background.
This is a marvelous winter scene - the still water, those great reflections, the brown and blue tones - love the shot! Sure don't like hearing that you're having trouble getting that tendon healed! What a sweetie your husband was to take you for such a lovely outing - I can visualize him pushing you on a muddy path - those things are hard on a cement walk - yikes! Do stay off it and get it healed!
@milaniet Thank you for your kind words, Milanie! I really appreciate your well wishes. The tendon had gone downhill ever since I got out of the boot in early November. An MRI last week still showed a tear.
I'm so sorry you're in a wheelchair, but I admire your determination and willing spirit to go for a hike anyway, and for your husband to make it happen. This photo was worth the effort!
@cejaanderson Thank you so much, Jane! I got the word the other day that I must wear a special boot until February, so the wheelchair is a blessing as it allows me to get out and about (thanks to my husband). My injury occurred last April, and it is quite stubborn. 365 has been a blessing throughout these months of healing.
Such a lovely tranquil shot! So enjoyed your commentary. I am sorry to hear your mobility is compromised. What a wonderful husband to care for you so, I hope you make a improvements with the new boot.
@kategoring Thank you for all your kind words, Kate! I so appreciate your comment. This is quite a departure from my normal, active lifestyle; but my husband is a gem, and we're striving to make the best of the situation. :-)
@eyesmile Thank you, Gena, for your kind words and fav. Much appreciated! It's great to see you active on 365 again. I've missed you. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
