CMOA

Andrew Carnegie’s Scottish heritage provided the theme for this year’s annual Carnegie Trees exhibit at the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA). The Scottish-American industrialist’s philanthropy left a permanent mark in Pittsburgh where museums, libraries, a university and more sprang to life as a result of his generosity. He gave away nearly 90% of his wealth to improve the lives of others.

Each of the six 20-foot-tall Colorado spruces adorning the breathtaking Hall of Architecture celebrated a meaningful aspect of Carnegie’s life. “Into The Forest” with its beautiful blue lights represented a Winter forest in the Scottish Highlands with snow, woodland animals, birds, and bunches of thistle gathered with tartan bows. “Pittsburgh’s Andrew” featured interesting, framed sketches of Carnegie; and sparkling embellishments on the artwork drew attention to tartans, gold coins, money bags, and the like. This tree’s topper showed a well-dressed Carnegie in a variety of poses.

Surely more photos would have been made of this special day had I not been confined to the wheelchair; but the wheelchair served us well, and we had such fun!
Lovely pictures from this wonderful display - spent many hours at the Carnegie Museum of Art when I was in school there. He was a most generous philanthropist to the city of Pittsburgh. Your lighting here is wonderful.

@mbemis Thanks so much, Mannie! It was tough to get the shots I wanted while confined to a wheelchair, but I'm happy that I have some pictures to help keep the memory of this wonderful day fresh in my mind. :-)

Beautiful collage of fascinating subjects! This is a perfect activity while you are wheelchair-bound, and the good part is that you shot from some interesting angles you probably would not have otherwise.
