It took 54 years, but I finally baked bread! I had a stint with a bread machine a few decades ago, but today I really baked bread. From scratch. Whole wheat flour and honey and flax and yeast and salt and oil and water and love — they’re all in there. The first loaf went out of the oven warm and fragrant and into the waiting tummies of my husband and son. And that felt really good.
It looks beautiful on the wood cooling rack! In the early days of my marriage, I bought "The More With Less Cookbook," and I've tried several bread recipes from there--all wonderful!
@cejaanderson Thanks so much, Jane! I love to bake, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to try bread. It was so fun, and the house smelled divine. I googled the cookbook you mentioned. It looks fabulous! Did you know it was reprinted in 2011?
@mittens Thank you, Marilyn! I'd been wanting to do it for quite some time, and I finally decided to give it a go. My guys loved it, which made it all worthwhile!
That's a pretty neat accomplishment - think you ought to feel quite creative if you can make bread from scratch - or at least I would. Quite impressive. And the picture looks terrific - imagine your kitchen smelled wonderful! Lucky family.
@moya Aww, what a sweet memory you have of your Mom, Moya. There's something about fresh, homemade bread. Both making it and eating it comforts. I really appreciate you viewing my image and taking the time to comment. Thank you.
Mmmmmm...for taste...and for the lovely image. Great tones and pov. I am a bread lover....GOOD bread! I can't bake it because I would never stop eating it.
