I love the warm colour and the texture on this. I also love old things, and wondering about their history and the people who came into contact with them over the years.
Wood — especially *old* wood — can have such character. And the nicks and scratches and gouges belie a history that would probably be fascinating to know!
@cejaanderson Thank you for commenting, Jane! I think of all those mornings, too. Mornings in the 1700s! Oh, the stories this blanket chest could tell.
@rhoing Thanks so much for commenting, Thom! When I think of sun shining on this chest all the way back in the 1700s, I can't help but wonder where it sat, who surrounded it, what (besides blankets) was stored in it. There's a lock on the chest and a small compartment with three tiny drawers built into the large interior. We've been told that families used to lock up small valuables inside.
@bethshepherd Thank you, Beth! I'll bet your floor is just beautiful! We built our home with Eastern White Pine floors. They're 16 years old now and beginning to get the dents and dings and character that we're so in love with.
