The Sumacs are ready for Winter weary Robins. Both the Staghorn and the Smooth Sumac varieties growing here on the hill produce cone-shaped clusters of plump, red berries. In late Winter with more favored natural food choices depleted, flocks of Robins end up at the Sumacs where they strip the berries and gobble them down. Colonies of Sumacs line our roadside, and it won’t be long before a drive by sends flustered Robins high into the air only to settle back down to their feast once we pass. This welcome, annual occurrence tells us Spring is near!
In keeping with the Flash of Red February book, I'm concentrating on post-processing skills this week. I'm getting a bit more familiar with Lightroom, but I still have a lot to learn. I find it quite fun to play around with all the possibilities!
