Beautiful weather last night called for an outdoor activity, so Mike and I took a peaceful walk through Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden in Pittsburgh’s lovely Shadyside neighborhood. Walking the garden path back in time to ancient Israel, we enjoyed biblical plants along with plants bearing biblical names. The path led us beneath a grapevine-covered trellis and alongside a desert, a waterfall, and a representation of the Jordan River. Papyrus grew from a stream. Olives, figs, flax, pomegranates, cinnamon — labels identified more than 100 plants; and each label included a relevant Bible verse. We’ll go back to this tranquil gem, and often.
A plaque near the entrance referenced Genesis 1:11:
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
