A gentle mist veils down over the canals, immerses it in soft light. Stillness spreads over the side streets of Venice, the canals keep quiet in this December night.

It's a great honour for me to be put on TT by so many nice people! It touches me very much. Thank you so much!
And thanks to Venice, this wonderful city.
So cool, and so "Venice"...If I would imagine Venice from different old books- this is how it would look like, so fool of secrets... Although- when I finally get to Venice again- I would prefer sunny day, not fog. Hope fog lifted at some point! Great photo. FAV
@vignouse Dear Richard, thank you for your nice visit! I chose this Venice photo also especially for you - one on which no TV antennas are to be seen... ;-)
With the best and most respectful greetings
@cherrymartina Martina - Thank you for your kind comment!
Of course there are also sunny days in Venice in winter. In my opinion, this melancholic-morbid mood in the fog is something very special for Venice. But this city is always unique - in any weather, at any time of day, in any season.
@mona65 "Der Tod in Venedig" ("Death in Venice") - very nice that you mention this novella by Thomas Mann, Mona. I like his language very much - his imagery, sophisticated style. In "Death in Venice", Mann penetrates the psychology of the main figure like an exploration of the winding and partly dark alleys of Venice... The subject of dying as an almost tormenting-slow drama in the novella - which place is better suited than that morbid-melancholic Venice... Basically it is a city dying in the lagoon, dripping down in damp, wasting away walls... The ground on which Venice stands, sinks, the water rises, the city slowly but steadily submerges.
And I love the film version of Mann's novella. Luchino Visconti created a great masterpiece.
@jerome A masterpiece indeed, and your picture suited it for me very well. Normally I do like written poetry better, then films. But in this case I had the film in my mind. Wonderful frames, I can get lost in the pictures and let me draw into them, so that I forget the plot. Unfortunately I have not your exceptionell perfect words to describe any image, I just can feel it.
@echomeier Thank you, Sherry, for your kind comment! "The other side of Venic" - Yes, there is the Venice, which rests in itself during the cooler season, with soft undertones, quiet and gentle with its own unique atmosphere.
@mona65 Losing oneself in the image, be embraced by colors, forms, gestures, moods,... That is the open door for an interior enrichment in encounter with art. Thank you very much for your nice comment, Mona.
