The cityscape in the side streets is characterised by laundry hung up oudoors to dry. The clotheslines are stretched from house to house. They can be moved back and forth via reversing rollers.
Fab Jerome! I remember these well from when I lived in Italy. Love the tones and composition and the way that the house facades seem to resemble the hanging clothes.
@summerfield A good question: Who owns a clothesline? I suspect it belongs to those whose windows the clotheslines are stretched. I would rather exclude that everyone can hang up his laundry everywhere.
