explanation of the prevoius picture "flower cosmetics"
Vikki @summerfield asks me: "is the flower pot real or jus a drawing? And how tall is this building?"
My answer: The flower box is real, I did not invent it or integrate it from another picture.
You can see in photo 1 what I had initially intended: From a slightly elevated point of view, I wanted to take a picture of the town. While making a corresponding photo series, I noticed the lady in the front house, looking for her window flowers (yellow circle). I was amazed how far she leaned out of the window. It occurred to me that this action might be even more interesting than the whole cityscape in the photo. So I activated my telephoto lens and zoomed in the window, the woman and the window flowers as close as possible (photo 2). In this photo you can estimate, how high the house could be - about 6 meters to the eaves, I would say.
This photo was the source material for the picture I posted yesterday. What I changed:
- dewarping the perspective - I wanted the impression of a frontal view, albeit from above.
- removing the door - that part bothered my image idea.
- cutting - how much of the roof? Decision for reducing to the drop shadow from the eaves. This dark stripe makes a good finish on top and "fixes" the window.
- colouring: many attempts and variations with a lot of back and forth. Lastly final version with photo 3. My reason: in that case the colour should not distract too much from the action.
Thank you so much for posting this Jerome. It is really interesting to read about your thought processes and your actions to achieve the wonderful end result.

Sometimes it is not so easy to make a clear and comprehensible description of the development process. My depiction is very incomplete. I often miss the right words and phrases - English is not my mother tongue. Many things in the process are lost in memory. Most of the time the process is not linear, but goes in different directions, some things are linked, some things are left aside. I'm always looking for the appropriate. But it remains a game with an uncertain outcome.
@jerome Don't underestimate your English-language abilities Jerome. You speak/write it far better than many people whose native tongue it is. As for your description of the development process, I really don't think you can capture the essence of creativity in words, there's a vital element of spirituality and feeling for the subject as well.
@calm You're right - to be on the way is the essential. Discover, experience, unfold, enrich yourself... So to be on the road is also an arrival. This world is beautiful.
Thank you for your nice visit, Cathy!
@golftragic Thank you, dear Marnie, for your kind words to my written attempts. You are very generous. I feel my limits of linguistic expression very often.
And it's true what you say - there is a sphere in our experience that eludes explanation. Feeling, sensing, empathizing, being touched, ... this is an essential part of our humanity. To perceive the world in its multifarious peculiarities - in its spirit, its bodiliness and in its anima ... perhaps our deepest and most comprehensive task in our life.
@golftragic My friend, I think we would find some topics that we could talk about very well. I think we would find some topics that we could talk about very well. I have to go to Australia anyway - one time is not enough...
@jerome I feel the same way about Europe. With luck we'll get our heads together somewhere, sometime. Let's keep our fingers crossed, or, if I remember what my German teacher told us, holding our thumbs.
