I can’t even imagine how you got this one. Does the zoo have an infrared room or something? Wonderful shot of the bats. I actually like them. I have heard that they eat their weight in mosquitos every night and that makes them friends of mine.
Brilliant. We have a couple of bat houses on our deck and they come out in the evening when we are in the hot tub. I wonder if I could set up some kind of lighting
What an amazing capture Jerome. This displays so well the bat's mammal body and those large amazingly structured wings which must surely have inspired the gentleman's black umberella.
@shutterbug49@jgpittenger Thanks for your kind comment!
Taking pictures was very difficult. This room was very dark, there was a very dim lighting situation (no red light). In addition, a pane of glass separated me from the subject. Taking pictures under these circumstances was pushed to the limits. In order to photograph the animals as sharply as possible in flight, I had to choose a very short exposure - so a high ISO value was necessary in this darkness. The shot is therefore quite noisy.
The settings for this photo: 1/2000 sec, aperture F / 9, ISO 6400.

They are really fascinating animals. I built a bat box in the garden a year ago. Unfortunately, it has not yet been populated.
