I found this caterpillar of (I think) an Angle Shades moth in my garden, brought him inside and now he's safely preparing to pupate in a container in my house. He's spun silken threads to pull up the sides of the leaf and has chewed tiny pieces of leaf which he has "glued" to the silk. When he feels secure in his camouflage netting, he will pupate & then I'll wait hoping to see the eclosion (emerging) of the imago (moth). No doubt I'll miss it - again!

@stownsend Thanks, Suzie. I found the caterpillar in the garden, brought it in and fed it, it's not a fussy eater, thank goodness. After a few days it stopped eating and began the long journey from caterpillar to moth. Hopefully it will all be over in about 3-4 weeks. The moth won't be able to fly away until it's posed for photos and then will be released at night.

@featherstone26 Thank you. As long as nothing goes wrong and by bringing the caterpillar inside it's got a better chance than if I'd left it, the beautiful moth will be the subject of MANY photos.

@babbs36@joev Thank you, Babbs, Joe. He's now completely covered by his "net". This is a new experience for me, I've never seen them creating a camouflage before, usually they will dig into to the soil I put in their container before they pupate. Some spin a cocoon first. There is always something new to learn.

@koalagardens@gaylewood Thank you both. The caterpillar is completely covered now but still hasn't pupated.
Insects are my "fascination" and if I manage to continue my 365 journey there will be masses of insect images at every stage of their lives. Some will be outdoors, many inside where they are raised safely from egg to imago and then released.
