Best on black. I did and experiment last night when Jim and I went over to the Siltcoos Outlet that has been closed off since last April. I did a vertical panorama of the Milky Way so that I could capture it a bit higher in the sky. My computer complained a lot re all the resolution it had to deal with and crashed a couple of times but it the end I like how it turned out.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs and for taking yesterday's dawn seagull shot to the TP and PP
OMgosh.... so totally amazing! Immediate fav. You motivate me. The way that the milky way and individual stars are so clearly reflected, without a gap, in the water is so beautiful!
That is amazing! How do you take a photo of this quality of starlight? Is it the long shutter speed or do you have any other tips for success? I just love this.
@casablanca thanks. I use my widest angle lens with widest aperture (f 2.8), set it at 2.8, longest shutter speed I can use with my camera and lens without getting the beginning of star trails is 15 sec. I use manual focus to infinity, solid tripod, mirror up if not mirrorless camera, remote trigger and then set ISO high enough to get the spread of histogram maybe about 1/8 of the way out from left edge. Don’t trust the brightness of the stars from what you see on back of camera cause they look brighter than they are in the dark. I try to get something in the foreground to add interest like the reflecting water here. Hope that helps. If you want to dialogue more about it, email me at jgpittenger@yahoo.com
