The sky is from 2017 but the harrier is from my recent trip to Finley Reserve. I wanted to practice putting him in a more interesting sky.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Hmmm. I love the two shots separately, but I'm going to be honest, I find the bird oddly out of place. It's maybe too big for the background or almost flat against it given the light is not on the bird the same way the light comes from the sky?
@jgpittenger The bird's size is potentially out of proportion but the light hits its side, and the clouds have light coming from above no? The technical merge is brilliant though!
@darylo i see the light coming from top left both sky and bird. If the bird is near me and the clouds far away, i would think the bird could be this big
@jgpittenger I definitely see light from top left but behind clouds breaking top down. The light on the bird seems to be coming from side of photographer toward the bird. It may just be me.
Very interesting composite, my first impression was it looks like painted - @jgpittenger also wanted to suggest a slight blurring of the clouds but see you already mentioned it. Have you tried? I do agree with @darylo that the light on the bird looks a bit odd, I would think it was originally lit from below but then that’s what makes it pop out
That harrier is amazing -- and you did a good job putting in the new sky. Works completely from a PS practice point of view. The beautiful gold color on the harrier seems a bit surprising against the cool colors of the sky. What do you think of looking for a warmer sky and for our workshop on Saturday?
@jyokota i added some warmth to the sky already but will try more as well as some blur and I may tweak the bird with a bit of burning to see if I can get the light to be more realistic. I’m kind of looking forward to looking at some of our Crater Lake photos for our workshop and really looking forward to hanging out with you and Taffy
