It was fun to get up close to some birds for a change. I liked the way he was stretching back to clean himself.
There will probably be fillers for several days here because I'm sick and also trying to pack for Hawaii! (Poor me!)
Love this! I notice it was shot at 300mm, do you find that distance lens useful? I've been spending a lot of time reading the different discussions on here as I'm thinking of investing in a long lens and can't decide to go to 200mm or 300m as a lot of people said the 300 was a bit pointless? Any advice welcome! thank you!
@ejlockett this would have been fine with a 200mm lens but more often I am shooting at a greater distance. I would say if you like shooting birds 300mm is the least. I have a 500 but it's too heavy for me without a tripod so I only use it when something is stationary enough to use it. I wish I'd had it for the roosting herons but it wasn't with me. My 300 is my go to lens for birds. I took the tripod mount off (it can go back on) and it's light enough for me to hand hold despite being almost 70 yo (me, not it)
I like the way the goose's (?) head is turned back. I guess he is preening. At any rate there is gorgeous detail here. Get well very quickly. Hawaii sounds great in the middle of winter.
@jgpittenger Thank you for your advice! It's very confusing as everyone has a different opinion. A kind gentleman let me have a go of his 200mm in Manchester the other week, it was only a quick go and I did love it.. some none photography people have said they thought I would have to use a tripod when zoomed in at 200mm, do you find that the case or is it easy to get a sharp picture?
