After the storm...... by joansmor

After the storm......

Because we had a blizzard (which means blowing snow and wind) no birds Tuesday. But they were at it on Wednesday and I got this little guy. Do you see the little icicle inside the feeding hole. Boy tough being a bird sometimes.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, and the stay safe wishes. We are fine here in my corner of Maine and bracing for another storm tomorrow but less snow. Turns out my town got about the most out of this storm. Aren't I lucky.
Beautiful clarity and catchlight. I really like the clean background. The little icicle is super cute, too. Very well done!

I'm surprised that the birds are comfortable using this sort of feeder where they have to put their heads right inside. We have a hundred or so birds in the garden at any one time during the day - six or seven different species - and they all feed the same way: peck - check round for danger, peck - check round for danger... there's always the risk that they might get taken by a sparrow-hawk or a buzzard, it happens quite often.

@vignouse Believe me they keep a weary eye out. Often they grab and go up to the trees. You have to admit this keeps the snow out and openings like this are common here in the states in bird feeders. This feeder is designed to foil the squirrels. I brought it from Wild Birds Unlimited http://shop.wbu.com/p/wbu-eliminator-squirrel-proof-bird-feeder/squirrel-proof-bird-feeders?pp=12,

@joansmor Our red squirrels - much smaller than the grey American tree rat ;-) - are very timid and very wild... I count myself fortunate on the rare occasions that I see one.
