Ft Williams

Love this old building. It is in Cape Elizabeth in the same park as the famous Portland Headlight lighthouse. It is a huge park and free. For those who like to look things up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Williams_(Maine)
Oh, I should probably mention my husband shipped from here in World War II. It was were the enlisted went to be assigned.
OMG!! I haven't gone thru my possible pics for today but I went to the fort today and Goddard was the focus of my shooting! Crazy!

@dianen I did this last week when we were down at Two lights at the same time. It is fated we will meet.
March 10th, 2015
I don't remember seeing this building.
March 10th, 2015
@janiskay Well we will have to visit this summer.
March 10th, 2015
Great historic capture.
March 11th, 2015
Awesome capture. I hope your snow melts soon.
March 11th, 2015
@joansmor lol....you cannot imagine my surprise when I logged on here and your picture was right in front of me!! Took me a minute to realize I hadn't posted yet! Lol. I ended up not choosing one Of Goddard mansion, went with a nearby structure!
March 11th, 2015
Beautiful capture! I know you are tired of snow. I enjoy it and miss it!
March 11th, 2015
What a lovely old structure. Is it still used? Looks lovely with all the snow.
March 11th, 2015
Wonderful focused picture, rich on history and memories....A big FAV...
March 11th, 2015
Looks like a very formidable building! Is it empty now? Do I see sky and trees through the windows or is it just a reflection? Nicely captured.
March 11th, 2015
Very pretty in the snow!
March 11th, 2015
It looks a bit like just the façade. What an interesting place.
March 11th, 2015
@dianen @joansmor When you two do meet up please include me! Fort Williams is quite a trek for me, but meeting my Maine photog buddies and enjoying photo opps at beautiful Fort Williams would make it totally worth the trip!
March 11th, 2015
Nice shot.. You are kind of dating yourself talking about WWII.
March 11th, 2015
@eyesmile No it is falling down.
March 11th, 2015
@olivetreeann It is just a shell now.
March 11th, 2015
@dianen @kerfree I was going to ask in January and then the snow started. Now I am thinking spring. We could consider April.
March 11th, 2015
@wildernesswillie Before my time actually, my husband was 32 years my senior - did I shock you.
March 11th, 2015
@joansmor Yes I was shocked. I was doing the math. 20 years old 1945 ..About 90 now. Was think your doing good for some one that age. But being with a man 32 years your senior not such a shock. My mother has a new boyfriend 20 years younger than her. Now that's a shocker. I have worked with guys his age and they all seem to like the younger gals..... It don't really matter as long as all are happy. I have just seen more old guys with young wife. Than old women(83) with young boyfriends.

@joansmor @888rachel @olivetreeann @eyesmile Don't mean to intrude but I grew up in this town. This building (Goddard Mansion) was in disrepair when I was a kid 35 years ago. But back then I remember being able to go insideband even go upstairs! Now it is just four walls there has been talk of preserving what is left hopefully the fundraising will allow it. I often imagine what it must have looked like in it's heyday!
March 11th, 2015
Shame it's a ruin, it looks as though it would have been a handsome building in it's heyday. As an aside, I'm intrigued as to why they would clear the snow around a ruin.
March 11th, 2015
Fascinating combo of ruin and in great shape. You think at first it's an ordinary building, but then notice that the windows are empty.
March 11th, 2015
Wow Great archetiture!

@vignouse This is a public park and people walk all over this place all the time. It is hard to see in this picture but there are bearers across the windows and doors now. Plus most places are plowed in Maine, even if you go South for the winter you are supposed to be sure there is access for fireman from the street. Not that everyone does it.
March 11th, 2015
@dianen Jump in any time. Hope others will find you. You capture some iconic Maine scenes that others should see.
March 11th, 2015
@joansmor Thanks Joan!
March 11th, 2015
Nice photo of contrast with the snow and the details in the brick. I hope your snow is melting and bringing you spring soon.
March 11th, 2015
I just love this Joan.... I always wanted to live in a great big old castle type looking place. A castle would do. I love this. Will have to make a trip to an estate we have here. Did a lot of wedding photography there.
March 11th, 2015
Wonderful stone building, great architectural style, and nice capture.
March 11th, 2015
Lovely scene
March 11th, 2015
Super shot
March 11th, 2015
Looks great with all the snow!
March 11th, 2015
What a great shot and such memories.
March 11th, 2015
Before reading the history behind I had to tell about this building was a piece of your history and sure it is ;) ... I can figure Mr David Crocket or some patriot defending "colonies" from the King ;)
March 11th, 2015
gosh you've still got a lot of snow
March 11th, 2015
Wonderful building!
March 12th, 2015
Nice shot Joan. Lovely looking building and one that has memories
