While wondering in Kingman Arizona's historic downtown, I came upon this sign. Kinda symbolizes the emptiness of the historic area which has lots of older buildings (okay not too old) but many are shuttered and not safe to occupy. That is a real shame. The newer section of the city near the interstate is all fast food joints and rush here and rush there- walking around and taking in the older section is much more interesting.
I agree with Jo. It is a shame and it's up the town council, chamber of commerce and community to change this. Tourists love visiting historical districts.with it's little cafes, coffee shops, art galleries etc. Hope they can turn it around some day.
@nydelignorsk Kingman has some interest areas but mainly seems to be the turn off north to Vegas. It most definitely needs to take its character more seriously. @kategoring I am a history geek so I am drawn to the older sections. Anyway there were to bookstores in the part of town- we can't stay away. @paulmann Thank you, to be fair the sign looked like it was to be replaced but it spoke to me and my strange sense of humor. @cjphoto Thank you, you are so right there. I am glad that we went there - no many people to run into so I could take my time and shoot.
@stephanies Thank you, Went on a hike in the area and explored Kingman the next day. I've only just driven through on my way to Los Angeles. Glad that I stopped. The older part is way more interesting than by the interstate. @shazzym Thank you, the area was in between thunder storms so the blue in the sky was just wonderful. @overalvandaan Thanks, it seems that in the southwest bright colors are used to contrast with the brownness of the surrounding desert. I like the contrast.
@susale@jaybutterfield I am so extremely sorry that I have not responded until now. This sign summed up the death of old down towns to me. It is a true shame that we don't often see what should be down until it is too late. I do believe that there is still time in Kingman AZ to save and restore the historic area. It is a lovely peaceful area to walk around in. Wish I had money enough.
@davidrobinson Thank you very much for the fav. The desert in Arizona can have the best and at times the worst light to work with but I got very lucky that day.
