Perseid Watch by joysabin

Perseid Watch

This year we actually had clear skies during the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. I was up at 1:30am (Arizona time) to work on my star shots. I did witness 21 meteor streaks but none caught with my camera but still got this shot. 341 second exposure, f4, 200 ISO, 18mm. My neighbors leave their outdoor lights on (all night) so the light pollution is rather high. I am a complete and total novice with night shots but gotta start some where.
nice bit of spin

Is your camera on bulb setting? I would be very happy with this shot - a fav!

341 secs gives quite a bit of star movement which adds interest here. I like the tree silhouettes too. I was cloudy here so I missed the whole shower.

@kali66 Thank you, I think that I need to get out of my backyard to get some more interesting foregrounds.
@graemestevens Thank you, night shots are a learning curve. @frappa77 Thank you so very much for the fav, this meteor shower happens on my son's birthday every year so I was excited that it wasn't raining.
@francoise I even enjoyed getting up at 1am, it is so quiet. I have a lot to learn about night shots too.
@megpicatilly Thank you a great deal for the fav. I did use the bulb setting but I haven't figured out how to turn off my screen so I used my hat to just cover the back, worked looked silly but no one else was there.
@paulmann I gotta find a less bright timer than my phone. Since I've been here (Flagstaff AZ) most often raining during meteor showers. I feel gifted this time.
@chard Thank you, its a start. Try this ( http://www.diyphotography.net/your-complete-guide-for-photographing-star-trails/)
@cscarr97 Thank you so much for the fav. I have wanted to really learn how but the winter is best but cold. Try this ( http://www.diyphotography.net/your-complete-guide-for-photographing-star-trails/).
@pdulis I am very grateful for the fav, thank you. I tried two nights, this one is from the 2nd night. I have a lot more to learn but am having fun.

@cjphoto Thank you, I need to do more but sleep also has its appeal.

fantastic view

Wow, well done you for trying this...not least too for getting up at that time of day to picture it. I have never tried this but the light pollution where I live would make it impossible I think. So interesting to see the circular movement of the stars in this shot, they look like specks of glitter! FAV

@jerome You are very kind, I was going to go out and set up in a less lit area but my husband suggested that I start in the back yard for my learning how to do/make night shots. He was right (don't tell him that, though) since I could just crawl back inside and into bed again as soon as I was done.
@stephanies Thank you so much for the fav. Since moving here to Flagstaff I have really wanted to do start shots. This is the 1st dark skies city and the stars are amazing here. Best time of year is winter so I must challenge myself to get out of the warm bed and make art in January.
