Just a rose by joysabin

Just a rose

Why is it that what you want to work and spend 2+ hours composing, shooting and editing doesn't measure up to what you shoot in a quick moment?
all that practise is so you can just get the shot in the instant when you see it!

@kali66 You are so very nice, I guess I should try to capture that cloud of swear words that is floating around my house and tuck it away for another day. :):)

Wonderful lighting in this one.

I guess the answer to your question is just to be thankful for those "quick moments". This is a lovely shot. In black and white the leaves to the sides seem just to be extensions of the flower. Very nice.

When I was painting, and also as a goldsmith, my instructors always said that one of the hardest lessons for some to learn is when to stop. Perhaps the reason those quick moments work is because they are done and dusted from the beginning and the ones you pour time and effort into have too much in them? Your eye knows this but is too tired from all of the effort to recognize what it is that put it over the line...like a nose that has sniffed too many perfumes. I like the image. There is a haunting softness to it.

Love it ...

Oh I think it's just because. And just as @kali66 said.

@deborah63 Thank you. I shot the rose in infrared and then went into editland. I had spent 2 hours driving and shooting north of town but wasn't happy with much of anything that I did.

@mbrutus Thank you for your kind words and great reminder to stop and let go- what is it, Stop and smell the roses.... :):)

@evalieutionspics Thank you great words! I agree completely, I went shooting north of town to work out some frustration (not photo related) and I guess I was forcing things just way too much. This rose was shot while making dinner- I just looked over and just knew that the late afternoon sun was what I needed.

@pdulis Thank you a great deal. The rose and late afternoon sun and happen stance, an acceptable combination.

@domenicododaro Can't agree more, now. When edits and frustration mix, it can be a volatile combination. Step away and go get some wine.

@joysabin I tend to obsess myself at times. That's why I also appreciate the importance of letting go. I also am a firm believe in the positive power of serendipity.

I have one image that won an award. I was in my car and had my Nikon on the passenger seat. I looked to the right and saw a snowy scene and opened the window and shot it and put the camera down. A 5 second exercise. I suppose spontaniety is a source of success too!

I hear you! I have days and pics like that too where the editing just drives me bonkers... This is a lovely capture and very nice editing.

@pickerandagrinner As Rosanna Rosanna Danna says, 'Its always something'. I appreciate that you never know completely.

On another note, While gathering my development tanks etc, I found some very old 2 1/4 film that was my father's would you be interested in it? 2 rolls of Kodak Royal-X Pan, 3 rolls of Ansco B2, 1 roll of Kodak Panatomic-X

@stephanies I took my cameras to the car and drove about 1 hour north, lovely sun for infrared and contrasts for my straight digital. I guess since I was fighting off anger due to trying to order a new microwave oven and getting nothing but grief, I should have not tried to be creative. I think I just needed to let things set for a bit and then re-examine what shots I did get. Glad that I did. The rose was sitting on my kitchen cabinet and it just sorta struck me to bring it outside and use the later afternoon light.
Thanks for letting me vent and glad you liked it.
